Russia has condemned Hungary’s decision to expel 10 Russian diplomats, calling the move “extremely unfriendly” and an “unjustified escalation” in bilateral relations.
Russian Ambassador to Hungary Yevgeny Stanislavov said Moscow would respond to the expulsions, according to a statement published by the Russian Embassy in Budapest, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Stanislavov also questioned the Hungarian government’s recent assurances that it was prepared to maintain dialogue and pursue pragmatic cooperation with Russia.
He accused Hungary’s new authorities of being influenced by what he described as “ideologised anti-Russian phobias,” arguing that their stated commitment to keeping communication channels open with Moscow had lost credibility.
“This extremely unfriendly move constitutes an unprecedented and unjustified escalation on the part of Hungary, and it will be met with a fitting response,” Stanislavov said.
