Former Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze has been sentenced to five years in prison for accepting a particularly large bribe as part of a group acting under a prior agreement and assisting in the acceptance of a bribe.
Of the five years, three are to be served in custody, while two have been suspended. The court also fined Burchuladze 1 million lari ($383,100), Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Burchuladze and his relative, Vasil Mkheidze, who are already serving prison sentences in connection with the same case, reached plea agreements with the prosecution over new bribery charges.
Mkheidze was sentenced to four years and two months in prison, including one year and two months to be served in custody and three years suspended. He was also fined 100,000 lari ($38,300).
