France has set a new national temperature record for September in the town of Lavaur, where temperatures reached 40.3°C on September 6, Le Monde reports.
The report said the previous September temperature record in France was set on September 12, 2022, in Pissos in the Landes department, when temperatures reached 40.2°C, Caliber.Az reports, citing French media.
In late August, France introduced the second-highest, “orange” level of weather alert due to thunderstorms across 44 of the 96 departments in mainland France.
Earlier, the gardens of Claude Monet in the French commune of Giverny had been reportedly affected by the abnormal heat.
The garden has already lost nasturtiums and several other plants, while the gardening team is trying to protect the remaining vegetation by grouping plants and watering more vulnerable flowers at night.
Specialists are considering planting species that are more resistant to high temperatures and changing flowering periods.
