Iran has restricted access for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to its nuclear facilities, blaming what it described as “criminal and aggressive” actions by the US and Israel.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Western demands for renewed access were “completely unreasonable”, arguing that the restrictions were a direct consequence of attacks on Iran’s nuclear centres, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Baghaei also criticised European countries for seeking to bring Iran’s nuclear dossier back before the UN Security Council.
He said this contradicted their own statements about restoring UN sanctions last autumn.
The diplomat said the move supported the position of Iran, China and Russia that the so-called snapback mechanism for restoring UN Security Council sanctions was illegal and inapplicable.
