Iran and Oman have entered the final stage of negotiations to establish a safe route for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said.
Speaking at a briefing, he stated that the negotiations were productive, Caliber.Az reports, citing Tasnim.
“Iran and Oman, as two coastal states, have held serious and productive negotiations on determining safe shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. Although these negotiations faced difficulties at certain stages due to interference and pressure from third parties, consultations between the two countries have now entered the final stage,” he noted.
Baghaei added that once a final agreement is reached, a joint memorandum between Iran and Oman on establishing a temporary safe route will be officially registered with the International Maritime Organisation in the coming days.
