Honorary professor at Canada’s Institute for Earth and Space Research Philip Stooke has responded to US President Donald Trump’s claim that the Moon belongs to the United States, RIA Novosti reports.
Stooke said the United States could not claim ownership of the Moon, noting that it was not the first nation to send a spacecraft there or to land a spacecraft on its surface, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He added that the country responsible for those achievements does not claim ownership of the Moon and, like other space powers, recognises that it belongs to no one.
Trump recently posted a photograph of the Moon bearing the words “The Moon is ours” alongside an American flag.
Earlier, he expressed hope that a lunar object would be named after him.
