A Russian-flagged crude oil tanker that began drifting off the coast of Marmara Island due to an engine malfunction has been towed to an anchorage in Türkiye’s Tekirdağ province.
The 243-meter-long tanker was carrying 96,544 tons of crude oil when an engine failure caused it to start drifting near Marmara Island, Caliber.Az reports via Anadolu.
After a request for assistance was received by the Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Services Center of the Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety, the emergency response vessel Nene Hatun and the Kurtarma-16 tugboat were dispatched to the area.
The tanker, which had been drifting toward the Tekirdağ coast, was taken under tow and moved to a safe location.
Coast guard personnel then towed the vessel to the Tekirdağ anchorage, where it was safely anchored.
