A delegation from Kenya’s International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) has visited Azerbaijan’s liberated Aghdam district to study the country’s experience in addressing the mine threat and demining operations.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), the delegation was led by IPSTC Director Charles Lenjo Mwazighe.
During the visit, the Kenyan representatives toured the ANAMA Training Centre in Goygol and visited demining sites in Aghdam. The delegation was briefed on Azerbaijan’s experience in mine action, specialist training capabilities and the techniques used in demining operations across the liberated territories.
The discussions also focused on expanding cooperation and the mutual exchange of expertise between the two institutions, with Azerbaijan’s experience potentially contributing to the training of Kenyan demining specialists.
In Aghdam, IPSTC representatives were briefed on the scale of the mine threat across Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, as well as the human and security consequences of mine and other explosive ordnance incidents.
ANAMA officials also outlined measures being implemented to detect, neutralize mines and other explosive hazards, to improve safety for local communities and those involved in reconstruction efforts.
