US forces have cleared internationally recognised shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz of Iranian naval mines, US Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Admiral Brad Cooper said.

In a video posted on X, Cooper said the operation marked an important milestone in the strategically vital waterway.

He said US forces had successfully cleared the international shipping lanes of mines laid several months ago by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Cooper added that the internationally recognised transit routes in the strait were now free of Iranian naval mines, crediting US military personnel for the operation.
