Former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Reza Rauf Sheibani has applied for a six-month residency permit as a private foreign national, according to Al Arabiya, citing informed sources.

The request was submitted after his diplomatic visa expired on August 24, the sources said.

Sheibani is identified in the application as a foreign national and former diplomat, rather than as an accredited representative of Iran.

The residency permit would allow him to remain in the country without diplomatic privileges, immunity or official authority.
