Iran wants to see Iraq remain “independent and strong”, Iranian Supreme Leader’s military adviser Mohsen Rezaei said on August 25.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Rezaei made the remarks during a meeting with Faiq Zidan, head of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council.

Rezaei said countries in the region would play a key role in determining the future of the Middle East.

He also stressed the need to finally determine the fate of “anti-Iran Kurdish groups based in the border areas of the two countries”.

Zidan thanked Iran for its support for Baghdad and stressed the importance of regional co-operation in ensuring security along the shared border.
