Armenian law enforcement officers have detained six people, including former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, who is accused of illegally acquiring state property.
As part of a criminal investigation by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee, officers also detained his son and other individuals allegedly involved in criminal schemes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The committee said, according to factual evidence obtained during the investigation, a person who held the position of president of Armenia, in collusion with close associates and using his official position, illegally transferred state property into private ownership under various pretexts and acquired several valuable assets of public and economic significance at prices significantly below market value.
“According to evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation, to conceal the actual ownership and criminal origin of the property, the assets were registered in the names of affiliated companies. The acquired property was then used through construction, sale, transfer to third parties, as well as the transfer of shares in the companies owning the assets, including through donations,” it added.
