Kazakhstan is developing automated passport control systems that will allow foreign nationals to pass through border checkpoints more quickly using dedicated biometric terminals.
The technology is currently available only to Kazakh citizens. Passengers can use the terminals by scanning their passports and completing facial biometric verification, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
The automated procedure takes between 15 and 50 seconds, making it roughly five times faster than processing at conventional passport control counters, according to Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee.
The planned expansion of the system to foreign travelers is expected to streamline airport procedures and reduce waiting times at passport control.
