BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. A new railway
station has been commissioned in Tulkibas, Turkestan region of
Kazakhstan, following the completion of its reconstruction.
This was reflected in the statement of the press service of
Kazakh government.
The station, which has a history of more than 100 years, was
first built in 1916. The new terminal is designed to serve around
200 passengers per day and includes a 90-seat waiting area, twice
the capacity of the previous station. The station building also
houses railway ticket offices, an information desk, food outlets
and staff facilities.
The reconstructed facility includes infrastructure for
passengers with reduced mobility and people with disabilities,
including designated areas and an elevator. A mother-and-child room
has also been provided. As part of the reconstruction, the
540-meter-long passenger platform was renovated. Landscaping and
improvement works were carried out around the station, while video
surveillance and public address systems were installed. The
pedestrian bridge was also reconstructed.
The modernization program covers railway stations in several
regions of Kazakhstan. A total of 124 railway facilities are
scheduled for renovation under the program. As of now, 72 stations
have been renovated and commissioned, while reconstruction of
another 49 facilities is scheduled for completion by the end of
2026.
Separate projects are planned for three major railway stations
in Astana, Almaty and Turkestan that have historical and
architectural significance. Their modernization is scheduled for
completion in 2027, with the projects taking into account
requirements to preserve their historical appearance.
Earlier, a meeting on the progress of the modernization program
was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of
Kazakhstan Nurlibek Nalibayev, with participation from regional
akims, representatives of the ministries of transport, industry and
construction, and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).
During the meeting, KTZ management reported on the
implementation of the reconstruction projects, while governors of
Atyrau, Aktobe, Mangystau and Abai regions presented updates on
facilities in their respective regions. The remaining railway
station projects will continue according to the approved schedules.
"During the meeting, special attention was paid to meeting
construction and modernization deadlines for facilities, ensuring
high-quality work, and strengthening coordination between
government agencies and contractors," the statement says.
Following the meeting, Nalibayev instructed relevant state
agencies to ensure the timely commissioning of railway facilities
and enhance oversight of the quality of construction and
installation works.
