BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. Turkmenistan has
highlighted the importance of cooperation with Georgia in
developing transport corridors connecting Asia and Europe.
This was reflected in a press release issued by the press
service of the Turkmen government on August 12.
Speaking at the scientific-practical conference “Protection of
the Caspian Sea Ecosystem: Regional Cooperation and Sustainable
Development,” Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister emphasized the high
level of bilateral relations with Georgia, the report says.
The minister noted active cooperation between the two countries
at the regional and interregional levels, with particular attention
focused on the development of transport corridors connecting Asia
and Europe.
“The development of transport corridors connecting Asia and
Europe, including the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian route,
is among the issues at the center of attention,” he said.
The minister also highlighted the practical implementation of
major international transport initiatives, including the Lapis
Lazuli corridor agreement signed by Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan,
Georgia, Türkiye and Afghanistan in Ashgabat in November 2017.
He also referred to memorandums on the establishment of the
Caspian Sea-Black Sea corridor signed by the foreign ministers of
Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania in Bucharest in March
2019.
According to the report, increasing mutual trade and effectively
using Georgia's transport and transit potential can contribute to
addressing a broad range of issues, including environmental matters
in the Caspian Sea.
The minister emphasized that close contacts between the
countries and the active involvement of government agencies and
companies are expected to further strengthen interregional
partnership.
