Ashurbay Mammadzada, a fourth-year Computer Science student at
the Faculty of Digital Economy of the Azerbaijan State University
of Economics (UNEC), has secured first place in the “Maze Solving
Robot” category at the International World Innovative Student
Exhibition (iWISE) 2026 World Final in the United Kingdom, becoming
the world champion in the category.
The World Final, held from August 2 to 7, 2026, at the
University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, brought together
participants from 25 countries, who presented their projects in the
fields of science, technology, innovation, and robotics.
Ashurbay Mammadzada qualified for the World Final after winning
a Gold Medal at the Virtual Final, one of the preliminary selection
stages of iWISE 2026. He subsequently competed with the JoshuaTech
team at the final stage in the United Kingdom in the “Robotics –
Maze Solving Robot” category.
The category featured 18 teams from different countries. The
JoshuaTech team outperformed all competitors and secured first
place, thereby becoming the champion of the iWISE 2026 World
Final.
In the “Maze Solving Robot” category, participants compete in
the development and programming of robotic systems capable of
navigating autonomously within a maze, processing data obtained
from sensors in real time, and determining optimal routes.
iWISE collaborates with MILSET, an international network active
in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, and is
accredited and certified by CATS Global Schools. The 2026 World
Final was hosted by the University of Surrey in the United
Kingdom.
The world championship achieved by Ashurbay Mammadzada in the
“Maze Solving Robot” category at the iWISE 2026 World Final, which
brought together participants from 25 countries, represents another
significant international achievement in his work in robotics and
innovative technologies.
