BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. There is no reason
to assume that the Mecca Agreement, signed by Saudi Arabia,
Pakistan, and Türkiye, is directed against Iran.
This was announced by the press service of the Iranian MFA,
citing spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei's remarks at a press conference
in Tehran on August 10.
"The three neighboring countries, Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi
Arabia, have religious, historical, and cultural ties with Iran.
Accordingly, there is no reason to worry that the Mecca Agreement
is against Iran," he noted.
Baghaei said that the history of friendship between the peoples
of Iran, Türkiye, and Pakistan is important as neighboring and
Muslim countries.
"An important sign in this process is that the countries of the
region have come to the conclusion that they cannot trust the
claims of some players outside the region. Therefore, they want to
try another method, independent of external interference, relying
on their own views and capabilities," he noted.
Meanwhile, earlier, Iranian Parliament National Security and
Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Ebrahim Azizi called on the
countries participating in the Mecca Pact to refrain from any
possible actions against Tehran.
Azizi stated that the Mecca Agreement demonstrates that Arab
countries have recognized the need for regional cooperation to
ensure security; however, he said, they have yet to find the right
He also warned of the consequences of any possible actions
against Iran, stressing that Tehran would not leave “any mistake”
unanswered.
On August 7, 2026, a trilateral joint defense agreement, called
the Mecca Agreement, was signed between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and
Pakistan. According to the agreement, an armed attack against any
of these three countries is considered an attack on all
parties.
