US President Donald Trump has said he intends to remove Syria from Washington’s list of state sponsors of terrorism, a designation the country has held since 1979.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa following the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump responded positively when asked whether Syria could be removed from the list.
"I think I will. Why wouldn't I? He's done a great job. Maybe he would have brought that up a little, but <...> that's a good question. Any problems with that? I think we should. Yeah, I will," the American leader noted.
Asked whether Syria could assist with issues related to Hezbollah and Lebanon, Trump replied: “They could help. We'll find out. I think we're making a lot of progress.”
