Authorities in the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales have begun evacuating around 10,000 people from areas threatened by a large wildfire that remains out of control, BFMTV reports.
Under the latest emergency order, officials announced a full evacuation of the commune of Ille-sur-Têt, home to approximately 5,500 residents. Evacuees are being relocated to the Moulin-à-Vent district of Perpignan until firefighters are able to secure the area.
An additional 5,000 people have been evacuated from 19 communes and several campsites located in and around the Aspres region.
