Poland has described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's proposal to establish a Ukrainian National Pantheon as "another step of an escalatory nature," according to Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s office.
In a post on X, it said the move vindicated Nawrocki's decision to revoke the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest state honour, Caliber.Az reports.
"President Zelenskyy has announced the submission of a bill on the National Pantheon. This is another step of an escalatory nature by the Ukrainian authorities following the May decision to name one of the military units after the 'heroes of the UPA,'" the statement noted.
According to the president’s office, as can be seen from the wave of criticism directed at the president by representatives of the current authorities, who now themselves acknowledge that he was right, Karol Nawrocki's firm defence of Poland's national interests is fully justified.
On June 28, Zelenskyy submitted the bill to parliament to establish the Ukrainian National Pantheon as a memorial honouring "outstanding figures in national history."
Ukraine's parliament approved the legislation on Tuesday.
