Syria's newly formed parliament will hold its first session on July 6, the head of the country's Higher Committee for People's Assembly Elections announced on July 1, marking the formal start of the new legislative term.
Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad made the announcement at a press conference, where he also unveiled the names of lawmakers elected in the recent vote and presented the list of members appointed by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Under Syria's current parliamentary formation system, the president appoints one-third of the 210-seat People's Assembly. Al-Sharaa selected 70 lawmakers, while the remaining 140 seats were filled through elections.
The new parliament will serve a 30-month term, with the possibility of an extension under the existing legal framework.
