On June 30, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met German Economy and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche to discuss expanding economic cooperation, with both sides highlighting the strength of bilateral trade and investment ties.

According to Kazakhstan's presidency, Tokayev described Germany as one of Kazakhstan's key trade and investment partners, saying bilateral trade and investment had continued to grow.

He said Kazakhstan had attracted more than $8 billion in German foreign direct investment since 2005, with most of the funds directed towards non-extractive industries. More than 1,000 companies with German participation are currently operating in the country, he added.

Tokayev said Kazakhstan was ready to provide all necessary conditions to encourage a greater presence of German businesses in its market. He also outlined the country's ongoing political reforms and reaffirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to the principles of a democratic, secular and law-based state.

Reiche said Kazakhstan had made significant socio-economic progress and described it as Germany's largest trade and economic partner in Central Asia.

The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, industry, digitalisation, the extraction and processing of rare earth metals, and the development of transport and logistics infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Tokayev conveyed his best wishes to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
