British Prime Minister Keir Starmer handed out popcorn to primary school pupils following his announcement that he would step down.
The event took place during Starmer’s visit to the Odeon cinema in Milton Keynes to mark the launch of the government's “Summer Savings” initiative, which offers reduced ticket prices and food for children to make family outings during the summer holidays more affordable, Caliber.Az reports, citing Yahoo! News.
Footage published by the outlet shows the prime minister filling popcorn boxes and serving them to the children.
Starmer recently announced his resignation as Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party, triggering a fast-tracked leadership process that could see a new head of government in place as early as mid-July or, in the event of a contest, by the end of August.
The outgoing Prime Minister confirmed the decision after a period of internal party pressure, saying he would step aside once an orderly transition is arranged.
Speaking outside Downing Street, he acknowledged he was no longer the preferred choice to lead Labour into the next general election.
