US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces carried out a precision airstrike in northwestern Syria, resulting in the death of a senior ISIS leader.

According to CENTCOM, the strike killed Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi and formed part of ongoing US operations aimed at disrupting and eliminating terrorist elements that seek to carry out attacks against Americans overseas or within the United States.

The command noted that US forces continue to work closely with regional partners in efforts to counter ISIS and prevent the group from reconstituting its operational capabilities.

“CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to rooting out remaining remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat,” said Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command.

“We will continue to defend the US homeland, our service members, and allies and partners across the region,” Cooper added.
