Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has welcomed the outcome of the first round of US-Iran negotiations mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, describing the establishment of a Lebanon-focused deconfliction mechanism as a significant step toward regional stability.
Commenting on the joint statement issued following the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland, Araghchi said the creation of a coordination centre to manage and resolve tensions in Lebanon represented tangible progress achieved during the talks, Caliber.Az reports.
In a post on X, the Iranian foreign minister praised the mediation efforts of Qatar and Pakistan, stating that their diplomacy had produced "major progress" toward ending the conflict in Lebanon.
Araghchi also pointed to a series of measures reportedly agreed upon during the negotiations, including waivers for Iranian oil and petrochemical exports, the lifting of certain blockade measures, the release of some frozen Iranian assets, and the launch of a major reconstruction and development initiative for Iran.
"The first real test is the Lebanon deconfliction cell," Araghchi wrote, underscoring the importance Tehran places on the newly established mechanism.
