US President Donald Trump said he considered awarding himself the Medal of Honour but concluded during a military awards ceremony at the White House on June 18.

"The congressional medal of honor, I wanted to give it to myself, but I was informed I couldn't do it and I couldn't find anything where I was actually worthy, so here we are," he added, Caliber.Az reports via the White House press service.

The ceremony took place in the East Room of the White House, where Trump presented the United States’ highest military decoration to retired Marine Corps Major James Capers, awarded it posthumously to Marine Corps Colonel John Ripley, and also honoured retired Army Major Nicholas Dockery.

The Medal of Honour is the highest US military award for valour in combat. It is presented by the President on behalf of Congress to service members who demonstrate extraordinary bravery at the risk of their lives, beyond the call of duty.
