Chinese Vice President Han Zheng held separate meetings with a Canadian business delegation led by Industry Minister Melanie Joly and with Lars Rebien Sørensen, chair of the Novo Nordisk Foundation and board chair of Novo Nordisk, as Beijing seeks to deepen economic ties and attract foreign investment.
During talks with the Canadian delegation, Han said China and Canada had “strong economic complementarities” and significant potential for cooperation, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He said Beijing was ready to implement consensus reached by both countries’ leaders, expand collaboration in traditional sectors and boost ties in emerging industries including new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence.
Han added that China aimed to advance bilateral relations towards a “sound, stable and sustainable” development
Melanie Joly said Canada was willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between enterprises in both countries and support stable development of bilateral relations.
In a separate meeting, Han said Beijing placed high importance on public health and encouraged Novo Nordisk to leverage its expertise to support China’s “Healthy China” initiative.
He also reiterated China’s commitment to high-level opening up and improving a market-oriented, law-based and internationalised business environment for foreign firms.
Sørensen said the company remained optimistic about China’s economic prospects and would continue to expand its presence and participation in the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
