An Italian SAMP-T surface-to-air missile system has been deployed to Türkiye and stationed on 18 June at the Air Force Command base in Konya, the Turkish Ministry of Defence has stated.

It said in line with NATO’s permanent defence plan, one Italian SAMP-T air defence system has been deployed today at the 3rd Main Air Base Command to strengthen the alliance’s air defence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

Earlier reports indicated that the Konya base was expected to host an SAMP-T system equipped with Aster 30 missiles to help protect the region from potential missile threats originating from the Middle East.
