BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2. Azerbaijan is poised
to play an even more significant role in Eurasian energy logistics
thanks to the development of alternative methods of gas
transportation, alongside traditional pipeline infrastructure, CIMC
ENRIC’s CIS Sales Manager, Weixuan Cheng, said, Trend reports.
He made the statement during a panel session at the 31st
International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, currently taking
place in Baku.
According to him, the Southern Gas Corridor is already one of
the key routes for natural gas supplies to Europe and plays an
important role in ensuring the region’s energy security.
“The gas corridor transports significant volumes of natural gas
over long distances to European countries every year; however, the
pipeline infrastructure has certain limitations in terms of
territorial coverage,” he noted.
Cheng emphasized that to further improve the efficiency of
supplies, it is necessary to develop additional transportation
solutions capable of delivering gas to areas not covered by main
pipelines.
“This is the so-called ‘last-mile’ problem. In regions lacking
pipeline infrastructure, mobile solutions can be used to transport
gas at a lower cost,” the CIMC ENRIC representative said.
According to him, the growing importance of transport and
logistics routes between Asia and Europe makes Azerbaijan’s
geographical location even more crucial for international energy
supplies.
“In the future, gas transportation will not depend solely on
pipelines. A combination of various delivery methods will
significantly expand opportunities for energy cooperation and
improve the efficiency of supplies," Cheng emphasized.
He added that the development of new gas transportation
technologies can complement existing infrastructure and create
additional opportunities for expanding energy ties between the
countries of Eurasia.
