Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has become a billionaire, according to Bloomberg.

The outlet reports that the 38-year-old Argentine has earned around $700 million since 2007 through salary and bonuses, bringing his total net worth to over $1 billion.

He becomes the second footballer included in Bloomberg’s billionaire index, after Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo of Saudi club Al-Nassr, who entered the list in October 2025.

Messi has been playing for Inter Miami since 2023.

He is the most decorated footballer in history with 46 trophies.

He won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina, four UEFA Champions League titles and ten Spanish league titles with Barcelona, as well as two Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain.

In mid-May, former England captain David Beckham also entered The Times’ billionaire list.

In Forbes’ latest ranking of athlete billionaires, names include Michael Jordan ($4.3 billion), Magic Johnson ($1.6 billion), LeBron James ($1.4 billion), Tiger Woods ($1.5 billion), and Roger Federer ($1.1 billion).
