US President Donald Trump has announced plans to increase the American military presence in Poland by deploying an additional 5,000 troops.

“Based on the successful Election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to Endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Poland has in recent months reported an uptick in security incidents linked to Russia, including cases in which NATO and Polish forces were forced to shoot down Russian drones that violated the country’s airspace. The incidents have contributed to heightened regional tensions along NATO’s eastern flank.

Polish authorities have also announced the detention of three citizens suspected of spying for Moscow and preparing sabotage and disinformation activities targeting NATO infrastructure and operations. The developments come amid broader concerns in Europe about hybrid threats, intelligence activity, and sabotage networks.

According to an analysis by the Council on Foreign Relations, the United States currently maintains around 80,000 troops stationed across Europe. Of these, approximately 10,000 are deployed in Poland, reflecting the country’s growing strategic importance within NATO’s eastern defence posture.

The largest US military presence in Europe remains in Germany, where more than 38,000 American troops are stationed.
