China has rejected allegations that it secretly trained Russian military personnel who later participated in the war against Ukraine, describing the claims as an attempt to shift responsibility for the conflict onto Beijing.

The denial was issued in a response by a representative of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided by the official’s office following a request from a Ukrinform correspondent in China.

Addressing the issue, the representative reiterated Beijing’s stated position on the war, emphasising neutrality and support for diplomatic resolution.

“On the issue of the Ukrainian crisis, China consistently adheres to an objective and impartial position and makes efforts to promote peace talks,” the response said.

The representative further stressed that China’s stance has been “consistent and clear,” adding that it has received recognition and support from the international community.

“The parties to the conflict should not deliberately inflame confrontation or shift blame onto others,” the ministry added.

China has formally maintained a neutral position on the war between Russia and Ukraine, refraining from identifying either side as the aggressor or victim, and remaining outside active international initiatives aimed at ending the hostilities.

The statement follows earlier reporting by Reuters, which cited documents and statements from three European intelligence services alleging that, late last year, China’s armed forces secretly trained approximately 200 Russian servicemen on its territory. According to the report, some of those personnel later returned to take part in combat operations in Ukraine.
