A participant in a charity lottery in Paris has won a Pablo Picasso painting titled “Head of a Woman”, valued at approximately €1 million.
According to the Associated Press, the winner is 58-year-old art enthusiast Ari Hodara, who purchased a €100 ticket.
The artwork, a 1941 gouache on paper dedicated to Picasso’s muse and partner Dora Maar, was raffled off as part of a fundraising campaign for Alzheimer’s research. The initiative raised €12 million in total, with part of the proceeds going to the gallery that owned the painting and the remainder donated to a medical fund.
The winner said he learned about the lottery by chance and plans to keep the painting.
The “One Picasso for €100” lottery has been held three times. Previously, works by the artist were won by participants from the United States and Italy. A total of 120,000 tickets were sold in the latest draw.
