Iran will not give up control over the Strait of Hormuz, over which it has established authority, according to the Central Command of the Iranian Armed Forces, known as Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya.

Iran’s armed forces “will take control of the Strait of Hormuz to a new level, retain the initiative in controlling it and under no circumstances will they relinquish Iran’s legitimate rights,” the statement said, Tasnim reports.

The military also warned that “the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran remain fully prepared and combat-ready to counter any threat and have their ‘finger on the trigger’.”

The comments come as Iranian representatives prepare for talks with the United States in Pakistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects to know within 24 hours whether an agreement with Iran can be reached, adding that military force could be used again if negotiations fail.
