Russia will not permit NATO countries with aggressive intentions to threaten the security of Kaliningrad or “claim” the Baltic Sea, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko said in response to questions about regional threats.
Speaking during a working visit to Kaliningrad, Matvienko emphasised that the region is “Russia’s western outpost” and plays a crucial role in national security, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“That is why special attention is given here. We see the aggressive behaviour of the West, NATO, and rhetoric suggesting that the Baltic Sea is almost considered NATO’s internal waters. All this aggression should not worry Kaliningrad residents.
I want to reassure them: Russia will never allow anyone to encroach on Kaliningrad or claim the Baltic Sea for themselves — that will never happen,” she told journalists.
