EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas is travelling to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for talks with key regional figures.
Her schedule includes meetings with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al Budaiwi, and other regional officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Politico.
The visit was reportedly kept confidential for security reasons.
An EU representative noted this was a dangerous moment for the region.
“The Gulf is caught in a conflict it did not choose,” the official said.
Kallas is expected to explore potential diplomatic avenues to ease tensions in the region.
