Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has called on the European Union to lift sanctions on Russian energy resources, echoing a similar stance by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

In a post on Facebook, Fico said: “I am calling for nothing more than a return to common sense. The entire EU, and especially the European community, is beginning to look like a suicide ship when it comes to energy security.”

He added that the EU should abolish sanctions on Russian oil and gas as soon as possible.
