Latvia’s Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has warned that Iran’s actions are contributing to rising global oil prices, placing additional strain on the European economy and indirectly benefiting Russia.
In a statement posted on X, Siliņa said higher energy prices were harming European economies and, in her view, supporting "the aggressor state — Russia," Caliber.Az reports.
She noted that the Latvian government had already discussed measures to mitigate the domestic impact of rising oil prices.
According to the prime minister, the issue would also be raised at the upcoming meeting of the European Council, where she plans to discuss the matter with fellow EU leaders, as well as with representatives of the United States and other allied countries.
Addressing security cooperation, Siliņa said that if the United States were to make a specific request within NATO, Latvia would consider it very seriously. However, she stressed that Latvia’s primary focus remains strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and continuing support for Ukraine.
