The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has urged citizens not to store fuel in unsafe containers, stressing that petrol and diesel supplies remain adequate at fuel stations across India.

In a statement published on X, the ministry said there is sufficient availability of petrol and diesel at filling stations nationwide, as per Caliber.Az.

The warning followed an incident at a fuel station in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where petrol was reportedly dispensed into unsecured and unsuitable containers, raising safety concerns.

According to the ministry, the practice posed a potential danger to people nearby. The filling station involved in the incident was temporarily shut down, and those responsible were punished.

Officials called on consumers not to buy or store petrol or other fuels in uncertified containers, warning that such actions could lead to serious safety risks.

The ministry also instructed all retail outlets and fuel dealers to strictly comply with safety regulations when dispensing fuel. Authorities warned that strict measures would be taken against any violations.
