One of Iran’s most senior Shiite religious authorities, Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani, has called on members of the Assembly of Experts to accelerate the process of selecting a new leader of Iran.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the cleric said the body tasked by the constitution with appointing the country’s supreme leader should speed up its decision-making process, while still carefully considering all the requirements for potential candidates.
Hamedani noted that such a step would help “discourage opponents, preserve unity and cohesion in society, and support the country’s armed forces that are defending Iran against aggression.”
