As a result of a methane leak at a coal mine in Silesia, Poland, two miners were killed.
The incident occurred on December 22 at a JSW company mine, located at a depth of 830 meters, per Polish media.
According to RMF24, the methane leak created a dangerous situation affecting ten miners. Eight of them managed to escape on their own, but two miners were found dead after a rescue operation.
Rescue efforts involved ten teams. According to rescuers, the deceased miners were experienced specialists with many years of work experience.
In a previous such deadly incident in Poland, a series of methane explosions at the Pnyowiec mine killed more than a dozen miners and rescuers, some of whom could not be brought to the surface for over a year because the area remained dangerous. In the end, the mine administration reported that only 16 people had died.
