A NORAD F-16 fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft after it violated temporary restricted airspace over Palm Beach, Florida, the North American Aerospace Defence Command said.
The incident occurred at around 9:20 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on December 21, when the aircraft entered a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone. According to NORAD, the civilian pilot appeared unresponsive to initial radio communications, Caliber.Az reports.
To gain the pilot’s attention, the F-16 conducted a “headbutt” maneuver, a standard interception procedure in which a fighter jet flies close in front of an aircraft to provide a visual signal to change course. NORAD said the situation was resolved safely.
Palm Beach is home to Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s private resort, where he is known to spend time during the holiday season.
