The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has selected Munich as Germany’s candidate to host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044.

According to DW, the decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting of the organization’s members in Baden-Baden on September 26.

Voting delegates backed the Bavarian capital, leaving its only remaining rival, the Cologne/Rhine-Ruhr region, behind. Berlin withdrew its bid two days earlier.

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder described the decision as a “short joyful moment” while stressing that significant work lies ahead. “I see this as one of the greatest opportunities,” he said.
