Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has appointed Maksat Asanaliev as chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).


According to Kyrgyz media, Japarov signed a decree making the appointment on September 3, according to local media.


Asanaliev was relieved of his previous duties following his appointment. Kyrgyzstan's parliament had earlier approved his candidacy for the post.


The SCNS is responsible for national security and counter-intelligence in Kyrgyzstan.
