The Nordic countries have signed a joint declaration aimed at strengthening security of supply and improving preparedness for major crises, security-related disruptions and potential wartime conditions.
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, together with Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, agreed to deepen cooperation to ensure the continued production, movement and distribution of critical goods and services, says a statement from Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
The initiative comes amid heightened security concerns in Europe, which have underscored the importance of resilient supply chains and stronger regional preparedness.
The declaration provides for closer cooperation in several areas, including developing mechanisms for the flow of goods and services during crises and war, strengthening public-private cooperation on security of supply and emergency preparedness, maintaining emergency stocks and material readiness, securing access to critical raw materials and strategic resources, and expanding the exchange of expertise and experience among the Nordic countries.
“A robust society is buttressed by strong security of supply. Through closer cooperation among Nordic neighbours, we strengthen the entire Nordic region and become better at preventing and managing disruptions, strengthening our resilience and ensuring that people and organisations gain access to the goods and services they need, even in serious crises,” Swedish Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin said.
Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth also stressed the importance of regional coordination.
“The Nordic countries are stronger when we cooperate. Close Nordic coordination is important to ensure that goods and services reach their destination even in demanding situations,” Myrseth said.
The Joint Nordic Declaration on Security of Supply was signed on September 2, 2026, during the Nordic Supplies Summit, an annual meeting of the Nordic network for security of supply.
