The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution declaring April 22 the International Day for Greening the Planet, following an initiative by Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry said the initiative was proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in September 2025 during the general debate of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session.
The resolution was co-sponsored by 32 countries.
It aims to raise awareness of environmental protection, ecosystem restoration and the expansion of green spaces.
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted the “Clean Kazakhstan” campaign, launched in 2024 to promote greater responsibility towards nature.
