Telegram’s administration blocked 221,529 channels and groups worldwide on August 29 and 30 for violating the platform’s policies, according to TASS calculations based on statistics published on the messaging platform’s website.


As of August 31, more than 24.321 million groups and channels had been blocked on Telegram since the beginning of the year.


According to earlier TASS calculations, 19.136 million channels and groups were blocked during the first half of 2026, compared with 16.139 million during the same period a year earlier.


In the second quarter of 2026, Telegram blocked 9.69% fewer channels and groups year-on-year — 7.797 million compared with 8.634 million in the same period of 2025.


The largest single-day blocking operation in the second quarter occurred on May 13, when Telegram blocked 109,421 channels and groups worldwide.
