A passenger bus carrying five people veered off the road and into a ditch in Russia’s Dagestan region on Wednesday, August 26, with several people injured, the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry said, according to Russian media


The intercity PAZ bus left the roadway at the 26th kilometre of the access road to the settlement of Babayurt from the R-217 federal highway, the ministry said.


“An intercity PAZ bus veered into a ditch at the 26th kilometre of the access road to the settlement of Babayurt from the R-217 federal highway. There were five people on the bus in total,” the statement said.


According to preliminary information, the driver was travelling on the Babayurt-Pokrovskoye route when he lost control of the vehicle.


Rescuers who arrived at the scene freed the driver from the bus and assisted with arrangements for his hospitalisation. The injured passengers were taken by ambulance to Khasavyurt Central City Hospital.
