Russian airline Aeroflot will begin accepting payments in digital rubles starting September 1, the carrier has announced.
It said passengers will be able to pay for air tickets using the new national digital currency, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Digital rubles can be used for payment via a QR code both on the website and at the airline’s own sales offices,” the carrier noted.
When paying online, passengers will be able to select “Digital Ruble” as the payment method, after which a QR code will be generated.
The code must be scanned using a banking app that supports the digital ruble. Once the payment is confirmed, the amount is debited online from the wallet on the Bank of Russia’s platform. The ticket is then issued, and the receipt is sent by email.
At Aeroflot’s ticket offices, a QR code for digital ruble payments will be displayed on cash registers.
After scanning the universal payment code through a banking app, customers will confirm the payment on the Bank of Russia’s platform, after which the ticket will be issued.
