BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 25. Reconstruction of
the fourth phase of the Suusamyr-Talas-Taraz highway is currently
underway in Kyrgyzstan’s Talas region, involving 220 units of
specialized equipment and 473 specialists.
This was announced in a report published by Kyrgyzstan's
Ministry of Transport and Communications.
According to the report, Deputy Minister of Transport and
Communications Baktyluu Mombekov inspected the progress of works on
the highway during a working visit to the Talas region and issued
relevant instructions to responsible services.
''The fourth phase covers the 104.6–197.6-kilometer section of
the Suusamyr-Talas-Taraz road. The project began in April 202,''
the report says.
The ministry notes that trees have been cleared along 61.3
kilometers of the route, while the old asphalt-concrete pavement
has been removed along 39.21 kilometers.
Road widening works have been completed along 53.1 kilometers on
both sides. The lower road foundation layer has been laid along
10.4 kilometers, while the upper foundation layer has been
completed along 5.95 kilometers.
The lower layer of asphalt concrete has also been laid along
4.35 kilometers.
As part of the relocation of engineering infrastructure, 15.7
kilometers of communication lines and 15.8 kilometers of power
transmission lines have been relocated. In addition, 2.7 kilometers
of lighting lines have been dismantled.
Construction of artificial structures included in the project is
also underway. Work is currently being carried out at seven
facilities, including bridges and an underpass, with their
completion ranging from 11% to 90%.
Of the 190 culverts planned under the project, 41 have been
fully completed.
According to the approved schedule, the overall completion rate
is expected to reach 25% by the end of 2026, while 20 kilometers of
new asphalt-concrete pavement are planned to be laid by then.
The project is expected to improve travel conditions and road
safety for residents and transit traffic once completed.
Construction is scheduled for completion by April 25, 2028. The
reconstruction is being carried out by China-based Shaanxi
Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd.
The contractor will provide a five-year warranty after the
facility is commissioned, according to the ministry.
According to Trend's analysis, the ongoing reconstruction of the
Suusamyr-Talas-Taraz highway reflects Kyrgyzstan's broader efforts
to upgrade its road infrastructure and strengthen transport links
between the country's regions and neighboring markets.
The reconstruction of the 104.6–197.6-kilometer section is
expected to improve road safety, travel conditions, and transport
efficiency along an important route connecting Kyrgyzstan's
northern regions with international transit corridors. The
relocation of communication and power infrastructure, construction
of bridges, an underpass and culverts, as well as the installation
of new asphalt-concrete pavement, are key components of the
modernization effort.
The project is also likely to support the movement of people and
goods, improve access to local communities, and create more
favorable conditions for transit traffic. Better road
infrastructure can contribute to greater economic activity in the
Talas region by facilitating trade, logistics and regional
mobility.
Looking ahead, the completion of the project could further
strengthen Kyrgyzstan's domestic transport network and its
connectivity with neighboring countries. Continued investment in
major road corridors is likely to remain important for improving
logistics efficiency, supporting regional economic development and
expanding the country's transit and tourism potential.
